1969 Pemba Gyalzen III (ka Pemba Geljen), Nepalese Sherpa climber, who ascended Cho Oyu three times (2002, 2005 and 2016), Everest eleven times (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2023), Shisha Pangma Central-Peak in 2004, Manaslu RP five times (2006, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018) and Manaslu M in 2024.

1993 Huang Guan Shan (aka The Crown, 7295 m) by another Japanese party.


Gone on this day

1994 Vladimir Balyberdin, Russian climber, who ascended Everest twice (1982 - new Route - SW Pillar and 1991 without bottled oxygen), Kangchenjunga Central and about two weeks later the full traverse of the four Kangchenjunga-peaks in 1989 and K2 in 1992. He died in a car-crash, aged 45.

Hungarian Climbers on Top of Lhotse

Yesterday Hungarian climbers Zsolt Erőss and László Gál were on top of Lhotse. While for László it was his first 8000er it was the ninth for Zsolt!

Lhotse Summits

Today Lhotse was ascended by Carlos Pauner, Carlos Soria, Juanito Oiarzabal, Juanjo Garra and Javier Pérez.

For Carlos Pauner it was 8000er Nr. 11, for Carlos Soria Nr. 10. The latter is also now the oldest climber on Lhotse with 72 years and 105 days.

For Juanito Oiarzabal it was his 25th ascent of an 8000er, so he equaled Phurba Tashi Sherpa, who ascended Everest yesterday with Himex for the second time this season and for his 19th time. 

For Juanjo Garra it was his seventh Main-8000 and for Javier Pérez it was his first.

Mario Panzeri on Kangchenjunga

Italian climber Mario Panzeri (47) summited Kangchenjunga yesterday. This was his 12th Main-8000er! He only needs Dhaulagiri I and Gasherbrum I to finish the 14 8000ers.

First Sherpani on Top of Everest twice in a Season

Miss Chhurim Sherpa, a lady climber from Lelep VDC, summited Everest twice this season, May 12th and May 19th! She is the first Sherpani with this achievement!

More Kangchenjunga Summits!

Today Tunç Findik summited Kangchenjunga! It is his 6th different Main-8000er after Everest (twice, once from Nepal and once from Tibet), Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Dhaulagiri I and Makalu. He also is the first Turkish climber, who ascended Kangchenjunga! Two Sherpa climbers were with him on top, Dawa II (6 times Everest, last year Makalu) and Mingma, who finished all 14 Main-8000ers. He is the first Sherpa climber to do so! More about this historical feat soon! Swiss Guntis Brands, who attempted to be the oldest climber on the mountain, turned around at about 8200 m!
